Cultivating Creative Communities.

Cultivating Creative Communities will grow and support creative and cultural capacity in regional and remote NSW encouraging economic and social independence through activities and outcomes that evoke thought into sustainability, connection to country and self-determination.

Cultivating Creative Communities will deliver 52 FREE creative workshops with professional Aboriginal artists including Buddy Know, Loren Ryan, Adele Chapman-Burgess, Avril Chapman, Vicky Duncan and Indigico Creative throughout 15 regional and remote NSW towns.

Additionally, the 2 Rivers team will facilitate a series of professional development programs such as grant writing, social media and art handling and installation workshops.

This project aims to develop and promote access for Aboriginal regional and remote artists, art workers and community to increase their skills, promote high quality artistic outcomes and improve networks within the sector resulting in exhibitions and performances across the region engaging the wider community.

Adele Chapman-Burgess & Avril Chapman

Creative sisters Adele and Avril are proud Ngarrabul/Gamilaraay/ Yuwaalaraay/Kooma women from the New England area.

Adele and Avril create works based on their lives journey and use traditional mediums such as weaving, painting and possum skin cloaks as well contemporary mediums including photography.

Adele and Avril believe ‘it is in their spirit strength, learning more and seek more knowledge about our family connections to the places we visit.’

Loren Ryan

"I really think when it comes to identity, knowledge is power." 

Proud Gamilaraay woman Loren Ryan is a musician, Aboriginal culture teacher, and now a trainee reporter with ABC New England North West. Hailing from Tamworth in north-west New South Wales, Loren grew up surrounded by music and celebrating her culture with friends and family. Loren was featured on “The Voice” where she got to sing with Kelly Rowland, and also participated in Arts North Wests project Rivers to Ridges and the stories in between.

Buddy Knox

Buddy has carved up the Blues scene around Australia since 2007, notching his Blues belt with all the big ticket Australian festivals from Bridgetown to Bluesfest.

Armed with his signature 335 Gibson, or more recently in acoustic sets, the Maton, his devotion to the art form is genuine. 

Buddy is well known for his work in developing artists of the future through mentoring and creating performance opportunities for the youth of the region.

Vicky Duncan

Born in Texas, QLD Vicky started drawing at a young age, she is a self-taught artists who is inspired by her family, the environment and her cultural identity. Vicky enjoys using mediums such as ochre, acrylics and natural fibres.

Vicky believes that connection with cultural spirituality creates ideas and meaningful works which can affect everyone. 

Vicky is an experienced artists who has commissioned works throughout the country, most recently she was a feature artist in the Arts North West project "Yesterday Today Tomorrow".

Amy, a proud Gamilaraay/Gumbayngirr woman, and her husband Rick Allerton, are Tamworth NSW locals and the creative forces behind Indigico Creative. Indigico exists to collaborate with businesses and partner with communities to creatively communicate the stories that bring us together. Driven by the belief that every person, every business, and every community has an important story to tell, their vision is that every story is given value and a voice, to revitalise communities, reconnect to culture and restore identities to build a stronger future.
