Purpose of Engagement.

2 Rivers are holding community consultations to hear about the current housing crisis and homeless in general. 2 Rivers wants to directly engage as many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in the New England as possible.

2 Rivers will then report their findings to The Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), who want to work with communities to grow the Specialist Homelessness Services sector to better support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The following is a series of questions we would appreciate feedback on from community.

For further information or to raise any further business or questions that you may have in regard to the project and the foreseeable outcomes please contact 2 Rivers or the DCJ Senior Commissioning and Planning Officer as follows:

Governance.

Community consultation is a important practice that empowers First Nations people to actively participate in conversations with DCJ before decisions are made relating to matter that directly affect them and their communities.

Respectful consultation is mutually beneficial in building strong foundations for good policy development, project design and delivery; it is also the cornerstone of best practice.

Effective consultation allows the development of cultural understanding and supports engagement and networking with specific Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.
